About Our Logo
The figure at the heart of our Little Ilford School logo is Thomas Heron, a scholar and the eldest son of Sir John Heron who was the Private Treasurer of Henry VIII and Lord of the Manor of Aldersbrook which was on the land now occupied by the City of London Cemetery. Our school badge features a special drawing of Thomas adapted from a 500-year-old brass memorial image found right here in our community at St Mary’s Church. There is an inkhorn and pen case hanging from his belt which would have been filled with pigment indicating that he was a scholar. Thomas Heron’s memorial is famous across the country: it is one of only three surviving Tudor brasses in the entire United Kingdom and our logo carries a remarkable legacy that our students wear proudly.
