Co-headteachers' Welcome

Welcome to the website for Little Ilford School. We have the great privilege of being Co-Headteachers of a school that has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Ian Wilson is the head from Mondays to Thursdays and Helen Marriott is the head on Fridays.

We have recently changed our school vision to ‘Courage, Commitment and Compassion’. In this ever-changing world it is vital that our students persevere in the face of difficulty and that they develop the character to maximise their education. We know the importance of underpinning a culture of success with compassion for students, parents, staff and the wider community. The 2012 Ofsted Report stated that “The quality of teaching over time is outstanding. High expectations and challenging targets result in teachers having a thorough understanding of the performance of students.” Indeed, our students achieve some extraordinary results. In the 2019 exam series, our average English grade was a 5. In physics, 65% of entries achieved a grade 7+. Our curriculum is carefully tailored to the needs of our students and provides a wide range of opportunities for all, both within and beyond the formal school day. Ofsted have expressed concern about schools narrowing the curriculum for students but this is not the case at Little Ilford, where students can study art, drama, music, food, graphics, media, citizenship, computer science and sociology to GCSE, as well as all of the compulsory Ebacc subjects.

We encourage a wider participation in school life wherever we can. Our Year 10 Young Enterprise team came second for the whole of London this year and were only beaten by a 6th form group. Our Debating Group have won the London Debate Mate Cup in recent years.
As heads, we are well aware of our responsibility to ensure that all students have the opportunity to grow and develop into well-educated young citizens, capable of continuing their education long after they leave school and achieving success and fulfilment in life. Indeed, our students raised £4,600 in a sponsored walk for Abdullah Aid to support Syrian refugees. Our prospectus and website tell part of our story. If you would like to visit our school as a prospective parent, member of the community or a former student, please call us.
